We’re Proud Of Your Representation, Macaulay Tells Ukodhiko

Vice-President, South South zone of the Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWO-J), Comrade Stella Macaulay has lauded the member representing Isoko Federal Constituency, Hon. Jonathan Ukodhiko for his impactful representation of his constituents at the National Assembly.

Macaulay gave the commendation on Wednesday when she led executive members of the association on a courtesy visit to the House of Representatives member at his Erawha-Owhe countryhome in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State.

She said, “first we are here to rejoice with you on your victory at the polls as the member representing Isoko Federal Constituency, also as the Deputy Chairman of House of Representatives’ Committee on Science and Technology based on your performance and pedigree during your stint as Delta Energy Commissioner.

“Sir, the Triennial National Delegates Conference of (NAOJ) was held last year. Since the 35years of existence of the association, no Deltan had been able to take up that slot, but by dint of hardwork and the grace of God, I’m here today as the south south zonal President, and to seek your fatherly blessings as your sister from Isoko, on my 3years tenure.

“My Right Honorable, I have followed your antecedent. Your scorecard you recently gave out to mark your one-year in office; the two motions and ten bills, all speak volume of you. And I want to say, we are proud of your exceptional representation.

“You are a representative who feels the pulse of our people of Isoko-nation. From the university free-tuition scholarships, the monthly stipends to widows, old and indigent people among others speak of your magnanimity. Their prayers for you will not go unanswered, and I appreciate you most sincerely on their behalf.”

The NAWOJ Vice President, Comrade Macaulay solicited for the continuous support of the Member representing Isoko Federal Constituency for programmes of the south south chapter of the association, assuring of continued collaboration.

Responding, Hon. Ukodhiko thanked the South South chapter of NAWOJ for the visit and congratulated Mrs Macaulay on her victory as the zonal president of the body, which he said he was particularly happy and excited to know she’s a sister from Isoko.

The Isoko federal lawmaker described journalists as the conscience of every society, who inform the populace and keep political office holders on their toes.

He stated, “as journalists, you pick critical issues and you x-rayed them for the public to take informed decisions and positions. I feel, journalism is all about service to humanity, making life easy on everyone and public office holders inclusive to sit up and do the right things expected of them.”

Hon. Ukodhiko assured that, “we will continue to partner with you all. Look at what we are doing, give your criticisms. Tell us what we are not doing right, and we will look at them objectively and constructively.

“The truth is, we can not do for everyone but we must do everything possible to reduce poverty in Isokoland. The essence of government is simply to provide essential services to the people.” The federal lawmaker added.

Hon. Ukodhiko enjoined the women journalists to continue educating the people, though as watchdogs of the the society, they should support the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State and other Governors of South-South Zone.
